I'm not usually a football fan, but the World Cup is a different matter all together. The excitement of the game, the camaraderie of supporting the same team, the squabbles over which team is better, the fun of watching live matches with family and friends, the thrill of knowing that all over the world fellow-supporters are watching the game as ardently as you are...the feeling of being linked to them.
Along with the World Cup comes the ever-motivating, heart-thumping theme songs to keep our blood pumping, our spirits soaring and the excitement building. The song this year tops my list for being the most fun to dance to...Shakira's Waka Waka. It's pretty difficult to keep still with this playing on the radio...
The beat and the dancing motivated me to create what I like to call a Waka Waka inspired hair accessory...almost like Shakira's. The first step was to figure out how to attach the accessory to the head. For this, I used some thin wire and bent it to form a soft hook.
Then I chose pink craft string and added feathers (I like feathers!), bunches of mulberry flowers, some spacer beads, a couple of stocking butterflies and two lampwork glass beads to the mix...
...attach it to the hook...
and Ta daaa! What do you think?
To put it on, tie a tiny pony tail and hook it on through the pony tail. It will not fall off even if you dance and jump around like Shakira...believe me...I tried :)
It makes a lively and unique accessory to wear to parties, nightclubs or simply to have a different look when out chilling with friends.
A shorter version can be made to place on the other side of the head, or for shorter hairstyles, and different variations can be added to the design by choosing different coloured beads, flowers, feathers or perhaps by adding shells and buttons.
